Johannesburg – Airports Company South Africa (ACSA) on Wednesday announced the appointment of Luzuko Mbotya as its new Chief Financial Officer (CFO).

ACSA said Mbotya’s appointment, effective 1 December 2023, followed an extensive two-month search.

NEW APPOINTMENT: Luzuko Mbotya has been appointed new Chief Financial Officer for Airports Company South Africa

Mbotya is an experienced Finance Executive with an entrepreneurial mind and deep commercial business experience gained over more than eight years in executive positions held in industry-leading companies.

He will replace acting CFO Lindani Mukhudwani, who has held the position since 1 June 2023, following the departure of Siphamandla Mthethwa.

Mthethwa served as ACSA CFO between May 2020 and June 2023.

“ACSA sought to appoint a strong Finance Professional with solid State-Owned Enterprise (SOE) experience as its permanent Chief Financial Officer,” said ACSA CEO, Mpumi Mpofu.

“The successful incumbent had to demonstrate strategic thinking to elevate the organisation and methodology to progress to the next level in terms of growth and sustainability.

“We were looking for someone who is a visionary, self-starter… critical forward-thinker, and not afraid to challenge the status quo and work towards stretched targets.

“Following an extensive search, we identified and appointed Luzuko Mbotya, and we are confident that he is the ideal candidate for the job given his illustrious career and extensive experience with SOEs.

“We are confident that he will play a significant role in helping ACSA to achieve new heights of success.”

As a Chartered Accountant (SA) with post articles experience spanning over 11 years in the financial services and automotive industries, Mbotya has a strong finance background and extensive experience implementing finance strategies.

Mbotya spent the past 18 months as the CFO of Transnet Property, tasked with building a real estate business for Transnet, one of the biggest logistics companies in South Africa.

During his tenure, he made a significant contribution to the Transnet Group’s performance over a relatively short time.

Before joining Transnet, Mbotya was the CFO of Hollard Insurance between January 2020 and November 2021, and the Head of Finance from September 2018 to December 2019.

He became a Chartered Accountant (SA) registered with the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants (SAICA) in 2011 and obtained a Master of Philosophy degree in Development Finance from the University of Stellenbosch in 2020.

Mbotya obtained a Post Graduate Diploma in Accountancy/CTA from the University of Witwatersrand in 2007 and a Bachelor of Commerce Degree from Rhodes University in 2005.

“We are particularly impressed with Luzuko’s track record of succeeding in multiple environments, both structured and unstructured, and turning around underperforming teams/divisions into high-performing finance structures,” said Mpofu.

“He spent most of his professional life working for blue-chip companies with global footprints and gained international experience while being exposed to best practices.

“I have no doubt that he will be a great fit for ACSA as he is a results-driven self-starter and an executive leader who drives a high-performance culture.”

Mpofu thanked Lindani Mukhudwani for her service as acting CFO.

She said Mukhudwani’s hard work and dedication were instrumental in keeping the ship steady during the crucial transition period when the Board was searching for a new CFO.

“Lindani has done an excellent job in the interim. I would like to thank her for her excellent services and wish her well as she resumes her role as Group Manager of Financial Control at ACSA.”
