Rustenburg – A disgruntled game lodge employee – who quit his job days before Christmas after a quarrel with his boss – has been arrested for stealing an assortment of items that included a freezer, goats, and a motor vehicle from his former workplace.
The 23-year-old worker quit his job at the game lodge in Swartruggens in the North West last week on Thursday, (21 December 2023).
North West SA Police Service Spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Amanda Funani on Tuesday said: “It is alleged that on Friday, (22 December 2023), he clandestinely went back to the lodge and took his clothes and stole items such as a deep freezer, bar fridge, two bicycles, a generator, motor vehicle and slaughtered two goats,”
Lieutenant Colonel Funani said the owner of the game lodge called the police after becoming aware of the theft.
She said the motor vehicle was found abandoned at Boshoek outside Rustenburg.
The suspect was arrested in Lefaragatlhe, near Tlhabane on the same day.
Lieutenant Colonel Funani said some of the stolen items, including two goat carcasses, were found in his possession.
The suspect will appear in the Bafokeng Magistrate’s Court in Tlhabane, near Rustenburg, on Wednesday.
The suspect faces charges of possession of suspected stolen property, resisting arrest as well as charges relating to contravention of the Immigration Act.
