Durban – A 16-year-old boy drowned on New Year’s Day at Pirates Beach, where two other teenagers were swept out to sea.

ALS Paramedics together with NetCare911 responded to the drowning incident on Durban’s beachfront, at Pirates Beach, on Monday at about 14:00.

“Paramedics arrived on the scene to find Lifeguards and Durban Metro Search and Rescue personnel attempting to resuscitate a teenager believed to be approximately 16 years old,” said ALS Paramedics.

“Despite their efforts with an off-duty doctor, the patient passed away on the scene.

“It is believed that two other teenagers were swept out to sea and Lifeguards were conducting a search for them.”

ALS Paramedics said SA Police Service officers were on the scene.
