Pretoria – The City of Pretoria has warned that water supply could be disrupted within Rand Water’s distribution network.
“Rand Water has informed the City of Tshwane about the planned maintenance by Eskom on a transformer supplying the Zuikerbosch Water Treatment Plant, which may impact water supply within Rand Water’s distribution network on Wednesday, (10 January 2024),” the City said.
“The maintenance is conducted to ensure compliance with Occupational Health and Safety requirements.
“During this period, the pumping capacity of the Palmiet system will be reduced by 23%, and the pumping capacity of the Mapleton system will be reduced by 25%.”
The Cty said maintenance is scheduled to start at 08:00 and be completed at 15:00.
The City said: “Residents within the city’s Region 1, 2, 3, 4, and 6 jurisdictions are thus cautioned about the anticipated low water pressure in the system on the said day”.
During this period, the City said it wishes to remind residents to adhere to the following water conservation measures:
- Do not water or irrigate gardens with hosepipes or sprinkler systems between 06:00 and 18:00.
- Do not wash vehicles with hosepipes.
- Do not fill swimming pools.
- Install a low-flow shower head and tap aerators where possible.
- Use a dual-flush toilet cistern.
- Plant indigenous or drought-resistant shrubs in the garden.
- Use a broom instead of a hosepipe when cleaning driveways or patios.
- Collect rainwater to reuse in the garden or wash the car.
- Cover the swimming pool to reduce water evaporation.
- Take a short shower rather than a bath.
- Close a running tap while brushing teeth or shaving.
- Regularly check toilets and taps for leaks.
“Residents are urged to continue using grey water to water gardens and flush toilets,” the City said.
“Where possible, water-saving devices should be installed.”
The City urged residents to report water leaks, burst pipes, and all incidents where water is wasted.
