Mbombela (formerly Nelspruit) – The African National Congress (ANC) in Mpumalanga has suspended its treasurer Mandla Jeffrey Msibi, and two others “with an immediate effect”.
ANC Provincial Secretary Muzi Chirwa announced in a written statement on Saturday that the party has “temporarily suspended” the membership of Msibi, Mandla Mhlanga (ANC Ward 23 branch secretary), and Bhuda Mdluli.
“The suspension is with immediate effect,” said Chirwa, adding: “This suspension is informed by the nature and seriousness of the alleged misconduct, which shall be further ventilated at the Provincial Disciplinary Committee hearing”.
Although the party did not specify the alleged misconduct, there were suggestions it was related to botched coordinating duties ahead of the ANC January 8 Statement.
Msibi is also the Mpumalanga MEC for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs.
His suspension from the ANC has raised questions about the status of his MEC position.
However, the The Bulrushes understands that Msibi will continue in his position as MEC for now.
