Rustenburg – A man who whipped his wife with a sjambok until she died has been sentenced to life imprisonment.

Police spokesperson Sergeant Ofentse Mokgadi said 36-year-old Sithandile Ndlobethi, was sentenced at the Bafokeng Magistrate’s Court in Tlhabane near Rustenburg last week.

In a fit of rage, after he accused his wife of cheating on him, Ndlobethi whipped her with a sjambok at their home in Freedom Park outside Rustenburg in January 2023.

Ndlobethi repeatedly assaulted her with a sjambok until she lost consciousness.

“Upon realising the state of his wife, he then decided to rush her to Boitekong Health centre, where she was certified dead on arrival,” Sergeant Mokgadi said.

The police were notified, and the accused was immediately arrested.

He said the acting Bojanala Platinum Sub-District 2 Commissioner, Brigadier Mamotsamai Ntoagae, and her management team welcomed the sentence.

Brigadier Ntoagae also praised and thanked Detective Sergeant Motsheoa Segopolo, National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), and all other role players who contributed towards the conviction of Ndlobethi.

“The sentence will send a clear and strong message and serve as a deterrent to men who are continuing to abuse women,” said Brigadier Ntoagae.
