Durban – At least 18 people were injured Wednesday morning in multiple minibus taxi collisions along the N3 Pinetown Bound, before the Pavillion.
ALS Paramedics Medical Services said the collisions, which also involved a bakkie, occurred just before 07:00.
“A quick triage system was set up and more ambulance as well as Advanced Life Support Paramedics were dispatched to the scene,” said ALS Paramedics.
“Eighteen people sustained injuries ranging from moderate to serious and were stabilised on the scene by Advanced Life Support Paramedics before being transported to various Durban Hospital for further treatment.”
The driver of the one taxi was found trapped in his vehicle.
“The man was stabilised in the taxi by Advanced Life Support Paramedics while the Durban Fire Department used the Jaws of Life and other hydraulic tools to free the man,” said ALS Paramedics.
“Once free the man was transported to a nearby Durban hospital for the urgent care that he required.
“At this stage the events leading up to the accident are unknown, however, SAPS [SA Police Service] were on the scene and will be investigating further.”
