Pietermaritzburg – At least seven schoolchildren had to be stabilised on the accident scene before they were taken to the hospital Thursday morning after their minibus taxi collided with a truck along Ohrtmann Road.
The collision occurred just after 07:00.
ALS Paramedics Medical Services said when they arrived at the crash site they found “total chaos”.
Paramedics soon established that a minibus taxi ferrying schoolchildren and a truck had collided on the roadway.
“A quick triage system was set up and immediately more ambulances as well as Advanced Life Support paramedics were dispatched to the scene,” said ALS Paramedics.
“A total of seven school children were stabilised on the scene by Advanced Life Support paramedics before being transported to a nearby Pietermaritzburg hospital for the further treatment that they required.
“It is believed that some of the children were transported to the hospital by their parents, prior to the paramedic’s arrival.”
At this stage the events leading up to the accident are unknown, however, the SA Police Service was on the scene and will be investigating further.
