Pretoria – The police arrested 12 undocumented suspects and seized counterfeit goods with a street value of over R8 million in Marabastad, Pretoria.

South African Police Service (SAPS) Spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Amanda van Wyk said the suspects were arrested during an integrated takedown operation in Marabastad on Tuesday.

“The SAPS National Counterfeit Unit led a team comprising of SAPS members from various specialised units, officials from the Department of Home Affairs, South African Revenue Services, Brand Protectors, and security officers during this operation.”

Lieutenant Colonel Van Wyk said the operation also resulted in the seizure of various counterfeit items such as clothing apparel, shoes, caps, and bags.

“Just two weeks ago, the team also seized counterfeit goods to the value of R13 million during a takedown operation in the Johannesburg CBD,” she said.
