Mantakaleni Trust – A deadly shooting Friday night at a tavern in Mantakaleni Trust, near Calcutta outside Bushbuckridge, Mpumalanga, left two brothers dead and two other male patrons injured.

Reports from the scene said an armed gang stormed the liquor outlet and shot the brothers and two other men aged 29 and 35.

Mpumalanga police spokesperson Captain Magonseni Nkosi said the two deceased brothers aged 25 and 30 sustained multiple gunshot wounds.

“The brothers succumbed to gunshot wounds whilst the other two male victims are fighting for their lives in hospital,” said Captain Nkosi.

“The shooting incident took place in a liquor outlet on Friday night at about 23:40.

“According to information, unknown suspects approached the victims and opened fire.

“It is alleged that the suspects also took a firearm from one of the deceased.

“The brothers sustained multiple gunshot wounds and were declared dead on the scene by medical personnel.”

Captain Nkosi said the police were working hard to bring the perpetrators to book.

Community members were urged to assist with information that could lead to the arrest of the suspects.

However, police warned against approaching them as they are considered armed and dangerous.

“Twelve 9mm empty cartridge cases and one projectile were found on the scene,” said Captain Nkosi.

“The information received will be treated as confidential and callers may opt to remain anonymous.”
Anyone with information about the suspects can contact

Detective Lieutenant Colonel Sikhumbuzo Ceko on 082 922 9902 or the national crime stop number on 08600 10111.
