Mbombela (Nelspruit) – A memorial service for three teachers – Nickson Toga, Kholwami Blessing Sibisi, and Thembinkosi Suprise Nkosi – who died in a horror car crash will be held on Tuesday, (5 March 2024)
The Mpumalanga Department of Education said the memorial service will be held at Shekina Church in Matsulu, City of Mbombela Local Municipality from noon.
The two schools where the teachers were employed will also participate in the memorial service.
The teachers – Nkosi (born on 13 .01. 1988) from Nkomazi Local Municipality, Sibisi (born on 23. 03. 1995) from KwaZulu-Natal, Nickson Toga (born on 14. 08. 1995) – were returning home from a Mathematics, Science, and Technology Academy training session at Emalahleni when the tragedy occurred last week on Wednesday.
Two of the teachers were declared dead at the scene of the crime. the third one later succumbed to their injuries.

Before their untimely passing the teachers taught Mathematics and Physical Sciences at Tikhontele and Masitakhe Secondary Schools in Matsulu.
The MEC for Education Bonakele Majuba, Mayor of the City of Mbombela Local Municipality Sibongile Makushe-Mazibuko, Mayor of Ehlanzeni District Municipality J Sidell, Provincial Chairperson of the South African Democratic Teachers Union Oupa Bodibe, and the Provincial Chairperson of the Moral Regeneration Movement, Rev. MM Nthali were expected to grace the memorial service.
The Department conveyed its “deepest condolences to the bereaved families and wishes the injured teachers a speedy recovery”.
