Middleburg – A 31-year-old female doctor is appearing in the Middleburg Magistrate’s Court today, Monday, (4 March 2024), in connection with the theft of medicines and medical equipment.

The doctor was arrested at Middleburg Hospital in Mpumalanga on Friday evening (1 March 2024).
Allegations are that the doctor was caught with stolen medication and medical equipment collectively worth about R50 000.

Alert hospital guards searched the doctor’s car before she could leave the hospital and found the loot in the boot.

Mpumalanga police spokesperson Captain Magonseni Nkosi said police were summoned to the scene.

He said the doctor was arrested on the spot and she spent the weekend in custody pending her court appearance today.

“The doctor found herself on the wrong side of the law when her vehicle was searched by security personnel while departing from a government hospital,” said Captain Nkosi.

“Reports indicate that numerous medications and medical equipment were found concealed in the boot.

“The doctor could not explain why government property was in her car.”
