Groblersdal – Farmer Piet Groenewald and his 27-year-old son Stephen Greef have again been denied bail.
Allegations are that the 63-year-old farmer and his son severely assaulted their 30-year-old security employee Veneruru Kavari before setting dogs on him and injecting him with an unknown substance.
The attack occurred after Kavari allegedly reported to work under the influence of alcohol while armed with a panga.
The court has since obtained CCTV evidence of the assault.
The state is opposing bail because it says there is overwhelming evidence and also the lives of the accused may be at risk should they be released on bail.
Angry residents of Groblersdal have previously warned against releasing the accused.
Both accused were arrested on 18 January 2024 and since then they have made several unsuccessful attempts to be released on bail.
The father and son appeared in the Groblersdal Magistrate’s Court in Groblersdal, Limpopo on Monday, (11 March 2024), where they were again denied bail.
Groenewald and Greef, who have been charged with attempted murder, were remanded in custody, when their case was postponed to 4 April 2024.
Meanwhile, racial tensions in Groblersdal seemed to have subsided, with no incidents reported.
