Sodwana Bay – The 21ft Yeld Cat Magnum boat that went missing with skipper John Matambu and one fisherman aboard has been found.
The boat was chartered to go up the coast towards Mozambique.
Matambu was last heard from at 11:30 am on Saturday, (16 March 2024).
Authorities involved in the search said having reached the designated charter point, there was no further contact from the skipper.
Soon after the charter vessel lost communication, both Richards Bay Station 19 and St Lucia Station 40 NSRI bases were involved in the search.
Reports from the scene said Matambu’s boat – completely burnt out – was found, near Dobela, on Sunday. The medical kit has been found, used, and not burnt.
Neither Matambu nor the fisherman have been located.
It has been established that for the past few days, Matambu had been staying in Sodwana and had not checked out of his accommodation.
The search for the missing boat captain and the fisherman has been intensified.
