Mahikeng (Mafikeng) – Kudakwashe Mpofu, the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) who was suspended over allegations that he used a fraudulent residence permit, has resigned.
The Department of Economic Development Environment Conservation and Tourism in the North West Province (DEDECT) on Sunday confirmed that the “CFO of the North West Development Corporation (NWDC) Mr. Kudakwashe Mpofu has resigned with immediate effect”.
Mpofu’s resignation comes after a series of reports, which indicated that he had fraudulently obtained his residence permit.
Earlier on Sunday, (17 March 2024), Home Affairs Minister Dr. Aaron Motsoaledi told reporters Mpofu, who is a citizen of Zimbabwe, did not obtain his residence permit through the Department.
The Minister of Home Affairs said: “I am here today to confirm that according to our records, Mr. Kudakwashe Mpofu’s permanent residence document is fraudulent and was not issued by the Department of Home Affairs and we do not know where he obtained it.”
The DEDECT said MEC Galebekwe Virginia Tsotso Tlhapi noted the comments made by Minister Motsoaledi.
The MEC said: “I can confirm that the management of the department and the CEO of NWDC will cooperate fully with the Special Investigation Unit on this matter.”
