Durban – After 10 consecutive losses in the DStv Premiership, Golden Arrows have found the winning formula with the arrival of new coach Steve Komphela.

Abafana Bes’thende are preparing for the upcoming derby fixture on Saturday, (30 March 2024), against relegation-threatened Richards Bay FC.

A win for Golden Arrows could see them climb above Kaizer Chiefs into 7th place on the log.

This week, Komphela reflected on his team’s preparation for their upcoming DStv premiership fixture against Richards Bay FC.

“With acknowledgment of their strength know exactly that they go direct, they go wide and cross, we will just have to be aware of that, be ourselves but the important thing is to play the way we’re used to playing,” said Komphela who returns to Golden Arrows for a second stint.

The former Bafana Bafana coach left Mamelodi Sundowns at the beginning of the 2020/21 season.

Lamenting over his first stint as the Arrows coach, Komphela said he left before he could finish the job he was hired to do.

“I do have unfinished business with sis Mato and Arrows because when I left just after Covid we had done some work and that work needed to be completed,” explained Komphela.

“Top eight is possible because we still have 30 points to play for.

“We’re already at spot number eight even though there are one or two big teams that need to play their matches, but there has to be an outcome… so better the birds you have in the bag than three you have in the forest.”

Komphela recently left Swallows FC, amid financial challenges at the club.

Komphela explained how his experience with Swallows influenced his decision to return to Abafana Bes’thende.

“With regards to Arrows, I worked with the boss… I understand the kind of person she is and she knows exactly where she is going with the business and her business model of football… so that’s why it is stable here,” said Komphela.

“Most of us get into football without a plan, if you live a life without a plan, life will plan for you.”
Golden Arrows face difficult fixtures after Richards Bay.

Supersport United and Orlando Pirates are Abafana Bes’thende’s next opponents in the league.
