Johannesburg – Students of the University of Limpopo and the Tshwane University of Technology have been left in the lurch because they have not received their National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) funds for April – while a service provider says it is not at fault.
eZaga Holdings (eZaga), one of the four fintech providers, said at the weekend that it was aware of the delay in the disbursement of NSFAS funds.
“This delay is due to an issue on the side of the NSFAS and is not related in any way to eZaga,” the company said in a statement.
“To the students of the University of Limpopo and the Tshwane University of Technology, eZaga is aware of the delay in the disbursement of your April NSFAS funds.”
eZaga said the company remains fully committed to honouring the payment of students.
“As soon as NSFAS resolves this matter and releases the payments to us… we can pay you,” eZaga said.
“We understand the inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your patience and understanding during this time.
“Our team is closely monitoring the situation and will keep you updated on any developments.”
Due to challenges faced at the beginning of the 2024 academic year, universities were requested to pay allowances for both February and March.
Insiders said NSFAS was supposed to begin “direct payments” for the 2024 academic at the beginning of April.
