Johannesburg – Power lines along the R21 have collapsed resulting in the highway being closed in both directions.

In a terse statement on Friday, the power authorities warned: “Please take note that the R21 (both directions) will be closed immediately for traffic due to collapsed power lines between Olifantsfontein and Nellmapius”.

However, Eskom said its technicians were working to repair the low-hanging power lines on the R21 highway.

The power authority said the highway was to be re-opened at about 13:00.
