Durban – Two people died and another was critically injured in a horrific multiple-vehicle crash at the intersection of Pine Street and Gardiner Street in the Durban CBD in the early hours.
The deadly crash occurred just before 03:00 on Sunday morning.
ALS Paramedics Medical Services said when they arrived on the scene they found “total carnage”.
A truck and a car had collided in the intersection before the former overturned.
“Advanced Life Support Paramedics quickly assessed the scene and found that two males believed to be in their 30s had sustained major injuries and there was nothing more Paramedics could do for them and they were both declared deceased on the scene,” ALS Paramedics said.
“One person was found to be severely entrapped in his vehicle and Advanced Life Support Paramedics worked to stabilise the man in the vehicle while the Durban Fire Department used the Jaws of Life and other hydraulic equipment to try and extricate the patient.”
Once freed the man was loaded into an awaiting ambulance and rushed to a nearby Durban Hospital for the urgent care that he required.
One other person sustained serious injuries and was stabilised on the scene by Advanced Life Support Paramedics.
The patient was transported to a nearby Durban Hospital for the further treatment that he required.
ALS Paramedics at this stage the events leading up to the accident are unknown, however, SA Police Service were on the scene and will be investigating further.
