Durban – AmaZulu coach Pablo Franco Martin says the club has lodged a complaint against “ridiculous officiating” with the Premier Soccer League (PSL).
As things stand, AmaZulu will be without veteran defender Abbubaker Mobara when they face an in-form Chippa United in their next league fixture on Saturday.
Mobara will miss the game due to suspension, courtesy of a controversial red card decision during their loss to Pirates last weekend.
Coach Pablo said Usuthu has sent an official complaint against referee Cedric Muvhaki’s decision to the PSL, stating it was probably not even a foul, to begin with.
“We sent a report to PSL because when you are receiving a red card for… probably it’s not even a red card due to the situation but especially because it’s not even a foul,” the Spanish coach said.
“So then when someone else is making a mistake and you are punished for the mistake of someone else, I think it’s something ridiculous.
“The report is there in PSL and we are waiting two days for a reply.”
Meanwhile, midfielder Ethan Brooks said AmaZulu’s target was still a top eight finish.
Brooks believes that with six games remaining, their principal goal is a top eight finish having lost out in all domestic cup competitions.
“It’s very important and it’s been the goal for us since the beginning of the season to be in the top eight so it’s very important for us and it’s a goal we want to achieve,” the 22-year-old midfielder said.
With the penultimate stages of the season drawing ever closer and AmaZulu having just a few games to restore what has been a rollercoaster campaign, Pablo Franco has hinted he is staying put at Usuthu.
“We are preparing the team to be more competitive till the end, at the same time we are trying to accelerate a little bit the process for next season in terms of playing style and the things we want to evolve,” said Martin.
Usuthu sit 13th on the table, with 28 points – four points off the top eight.
