Durban – A truck and a car collided in the early hours of Saturday morning in the Durban CBD leaving one person dead.
ALS Paramedics said just before 02:00 they responded to a serious collision at the corner of Joe Slovo Road and Monty Naicker Road.
On arrival at the crash scene, paramedics said they found a truck and a car had collided at the junction.
The heavy motor vehicle had overturned and was resting on its side.
“Paramedics quickly triaged the scene and found that the light motor vehicle driver, a male believed to be in his 30s had sustained major injuries and was still entrapped in his vehicle,” ALS Paramedics said.
“There was nothing paramedics could do for him and he was declared deceased on the scene.”
The Durban Fire Department had to use the Jaws of Life and other hydraulic equipment to recover the dead driver’s body.
ALS Paramedics said two occupants from the truck sustained moderate injuries and were stabilised on the scene, before being transported to a nearby hospital for the further care that they required.
The intersection remained closed for quite some time.
ALS Paramedics said the events leading up to the collision were unknown, however, SA Police Service officers were on the scene and will be investigating further.
The name of the dead man was not released.
