Durban – A man in his 40s sitting on a road barrier was fatally hit by an out-of-control vehicle laden with vegetables under an N2 Bridge north of Durban.
ALS Paramedics said they were alerted of the deadly collision around midday on Tuesday.
On arrival, paramedics said they found the vehicle precariously perched on its side with butternut, carrots, and potatoes strewn on the road.
“A vehicle carrying vegetables had somehow lost control on the N2 South Bound before colliding with a pedestrian seated on the barrier before dropping to North Coast Road, where it came to rest on its side,” ALS Paramedics said.
“Paramedics assessed the scene and found that the pedestrian believed to be in his forties had unfortunately sustained fatal injuries.
“There was nothing Paramedics could do for him and he was declared deceased on the scene.”
The driver, who was alone in his vehicle, sustained serious injuries and was stabilised on the scene before being transported to a nearby hospital.
The dead man has not been named.
The SA Police Service was on the scene.
