Johannesburg – The African National Congress (ANC) has named its candidates for several provinces where it won the most votes in the elections.
Announcing the names on Thursday, ANC Secretary General Fikile Mbalula said after interviews the National Officials decided that the following comrades should be ANC premier candidates:
Eastern Cape: Cde Lubabalo Oscar Mabuyane
Free State: Cde Maqueen Letsoha-Mathae
Gauteng: Cde Andrek Hendrick “Panyaza” Lesufi
Limpopo: Cde Phophi Constance Ramathuba
Mpumalanga: Cde Mandla Ndlovu
North West: Cde Kagiso Lazarus Mokgosi
Northern Cape: Cde Zamani Saul
“The National Officials also decided that where the premier of a province with an ANC majority is male, the Speaker should be a woman, as well as the majority of MECs,” explained Mbalula.
He said the ANC National Officials believe these comrades “are equal to the challenges of our struggle for a better life for all that is difficult and diverse and require honest, capable, and dedicated leaders”.
The ANC renewal process seeks to restore trust and confidence as leader of the National Democratic Revolution and the fundamental socio-economic transformation of our society.
At its last two national conferences, the ANC vowed to be more effective in addressing society’s challenges, conducting its affairs in line with its core values, and renewing the movement to continue serving and leading the people.
“We are now raising the intellectual capacity and enhancing the moral and ethical orientation of our membership,” Mbalula said.
“The living embodiment of a renewed ANC will be members who show exemplary conduct in society by upholding the core values and principles of selfless public service, discipline, and integrity.
“We believe that this team exemplifies these qualities.”
All interviews were observed by the Chairperson of the ANC Electoral Committee Kgalema Motlanthe, or an alternate he nominated.
The Electoral Committee commended the National Officials for the integrity of the process and the leadership that they demonstrated throughout the process.
Meanwhile, Democratic Alliance (DA) Member of the Provincial Legislature (MPL) Alan Winde was re-elected as premier of the Western Cape.
The DA had the most votes in the Western Cape.
