Zeerust – Law enforcers found a gun and a pangolin carcass during a search of a suspect’s residence at Dinokana village, Zeerust, North West.

The suspect, 27-year-old Tomeletso Johnson Matebesi was arrested on Monday after a tip-off.

“A search warrant was granted and the police proceeded to the suspect’s address,” said Warrant Officer Amogelang Malwetse.

“During the execution of a search warrant, a firearm and magazine with holster were found.

“On further search around the premises, a pangolin carcass was also found in the garage.”

The accused was arrested by the Mahikeng-based Hawks Serious Organised Crime Investigation in collaboration with Zeerust K9 and the Mahikeng Tactical Response Team.

Matebesi faces charges of illegal possession of a firearm and Contravention of the National Environment Management Biodiversity Act 10 of 2004.

Matebesi appeared before the Lehurutshe Magistrate’s Court, North West, earlier on Wednesday, (24 July 2024).

Warrant Officer Malwetse said the case was postponed to 31 July 2024 for formal bail application.
