Johannesburg – Corruption accused for Sports, Arts and Culture Goodenough “Zizi” Kodwa has resigned as a Member of Parliament for the African National Congress.

Kodwa, who appeared in the Palm Ridge Specialised Commercial Crimes Court earlier this week, resigned as a minister last month on 5 June 2024.

Kodwa allegedly accepted “bribes” of about R1.7 million from businessman and former EOH boss Jehan Mackay.

Both of them are out on R30 000 bail each and their matter was adjourned to next month.

The court has named at least six witnesses that are going to testify against the former minsiter.

In his two-paragraph resignation letter sent to the ANC, (Seen by www.thebulrushes.com) Kodwa said: “I hereby wish to inform the organisation and Parliament of my immediate resignation as a Member of Parliament due to personal reasons.

“I would like to thank the ANC for the privilege and honour to serve the nation as a public representative on behalf of the ANC.”

Accepting Kodwa’s resignation on Thursday, ANC said Secretary General Fikile Mbalula had “received a letter from Comrade Zizi Kodwa formally communicating his resignation as a Member of Parliament”‘

The ANC added: “The letter is dated 24 July 2024 and the resignation is with immediate effect.

“The African National Congress has accepted the letter and wishes Comrade Zizi well.”
