Durban – Two people died Saturday morning in separate vehicle collisions and two others were hurt in another car crash.
ALS Paramedics, who attended all three collision scenes, said after 06:00 they were called to assist after a serious single-vehicle crash along the M1 Higginson Highway Eastbound, near the Westcliffe offramp in Chatsworth.
“On arrival, paramedics found that a single vehicle had somehow lost control and overturned coming to rest on its roof,” said ALS Paramedics spokesperson Garrith Jamieson.

“Paramedics found a male believed to be in his thirties had been ejected during the crash.
“Unfortunately the man had sustained major injuries and there was nothing Paramedics could do for him and he was declared deceased on the scene.”
In another vehicle collision, shortly after 08:00, Jamieson said paramedics responded to a serious single-vehicle crash along the M19 under the Otto Volek Road Bridge in Pinetown.
“Paramedics arrived on the scene to find the badly damaged vehicle in the centre median,” said Jamieson.
“It is alleged that the single vehicle somehow lost control and collided with the concrete bridge.
“Paramedics found the driver severely entrapped in the wreckage. Immediately the Ethekweni Fire Department was contacted to assist.”

Jamieson added: “Paramedics assessed the man believed to be in his 30s had sustained major injuries and unfortunately there was nothing paramedics could do for him and he was declared deceased on the scene”.
The Ethekweni Fire Department used the Jaws of Life to cut the dead man free.
In an earlier car crash, Jamieson said, at about 06:15 ALS Paramedics responded to a vehicle that had overturned on the M13 Durban Bound coming down Fields Hill in Kloof west of Durban.

“Paramedics arrived on the scene to find the vehicle on its roof,” Jamieson said.
“Two occupants had sustained moderate injuries and were stabilised on the scene by Advanced Life Support Paramedics before being transported to a nearby Hospital for the further care that they required.”
South Africa Police Service officials and other road authorities attended all the crash scenes.
