Durban – Two people in a bakkie died in the middle of the night when they were involved in a crash with a bus at the corner of the corner of Stanger Street and Somtseu Road in the Durban central business district.
ALS Paramedics responded to an alert of the horrific crash before midnight at about 11:30 Sunday.
ALS Paramedics spokesperson Garrith Jamieson said: “On arrival, Paramedics found carnage as they found that the two vehicles had collided in the junction before both vehicles veered off the roadway coming to rest on the sidewalks”.
He added: “Paramedics found multiple casualties and immediately called for more resources to assist including the Ethekweni Fire Department.
“Once assistance had arrived and a triage was done it was determined that there were approximately twenty people from the bus who had sustained various injuries.”
Jamieson said once the injured persons were stabilised on the scene they were transported to various Durban hospitals.
“Unfortunately in the bakkie, a male and female believed to be in their 30s had sustained major injuries and there was nothing Paramedics could do for them and they were declared deceased on the scene,” said Jamieson
The cause of the deadly crash was yet to be established.
SA Police Service and Metro Police officers were in attendance.
