Pretoria – Repairs have been completed at Mapleton Booster Pumping Station signalling the end of water supply problems that had dogged several areas east of the capital.
The City of Tshwane said in a statement on Tuesday, (1 October 2024), that, “an improvement could be detected this morning”.
The City said it had been informed by Rand Water that repairs by Eskom technicians at the Mapleton Booster Pumping Station were completed last night, (30 September 2024), and the Bronberg water system inlet was opened.
The Mapleton Booster Pumping Station tripped on Sunday and Tshwane residents had been warned to brace themselves for possible water supply interruptions.
“The restoration of the power supply at this station provides a glimmer of hope to the areas of Pretoria East affected by the water outages,” the statement said.
“Furthermore, this will contribute immensely to reservoirs that benefit directly from the Bronberg water system.
“A series of power trips compromised the water provision to some communities that experienced reduced water supply or lack of water.”
The City said the latest update puts the pumping load of the water system at 100%.
“Upon observing and checking the levels of some reservoirs impacted by the Mapleton power failure, an improvement could be detected this morning, (1 October 2024),” the statement said.
“Over and above the repairs by the technicians involved, a discernible upswing in the water storage facilities can be attributed to lower demand overnight.”
Some of the city’s reservoirs have improved overnight, however, the following areas were affected by the water outage:
- Parts of Mamelodi
- Tyger Valley
- Doornkloof Agricultural Holdings
- Mooikloof Ridge
- Six Fountains
- Shere
- Hazeldean
“Water tankers will remain in place to deliver water to affected consumers,” the City said.
