Mbombela (formerly Nelspruit) – Two Mpumalanga teachers who recently scooped the National Teachers Awards have jetted off to China to participate in a capacity-building programme.
Award winners – Samukelisiwe Hlomuka from Johannes Kanada Primary School and Noori-sha Seedat of MMS Primary School in the province’s Nkangala District, were chosen to participate in a capacity-building programme designed to enhance their skills and knowledge.
The duo’s visit to China is part of the programme which is the brainchild of South Africa’s Department of Basic Education as well as the Department of Higher Education and Training in partnership with the Chinese Embassy.
Mpumalanga Education MEC Cathy Dlamini said that, among others, the partnership underscored the department’s unwavering commitment to investing in the professional development of teachers.
She said that they were thrilled to participate in the programme.
The selection of Hlomuka and Seedat’s participation in the programme serves as a testament to the profound impact that their dedication and expertise have had on their students and communities.

“We are truly grateful for our teachers,” said MEC Dlamini.
“Their journey to China is a shining example of how the National Teaching Awards are more than just accolades.
“They are a recognition of excellence that can inspire and empower teachers to reach new heights.
“As they embark on this exciting adventure, we extend our warmest wishes to Ms. Hlomuka and Ms. Seedat.”
