Vaalbank – A car chase ended badly for three suspected armed robbers after they crashed their getaway car while fleeing from the police in Mpumalanga.
Two suspects got shot and are under police guard in hospital while their accomplice is already behind bars waiting for a court appearance.
Narrating events leading to the arrests of the suspects, Mpumalanga police spokesperson Captain Magonseni Nkosi said the car chase started outside a tavern in Vaalbank, outside Siyabuswa, Mpumalanga on Friday (25 October 2024).
Captain Nkosi said police, acting on a tip-off about a suspicious car without the registration plates, approached a Hyundai sedan parked near a tavern with three occupants.
Captain Nkosi said when the suspects noticed the police they drove off while firing shots.
The police returned fire and gave chase until the suspects crashed their car and remained trapped inside.
The suspects were all arrested at the crash scene.
“Two suspects are under police guard in hospital and one is behind bars after they were arrested for attempted murder of police officers and unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition,” said Captain Nkosi.
Three suspects aged between 31 and 38 were found with handguns and ammunition.

“One of the suspects was found in possession of nine small plastic bags containing suspected drugs,” Captain Nkosi said.
The trio will spend the weekend behind bars and are set to make their first appearance in the Mbibane Magistrate’s Court on Monday, (28 October 2024).
They were charged with attempted murder and unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition.
