KwaMhlanga – A Home Affairs official, 57-year-old Violet Veleleni Mabena, was arrested by the Hawks at her workplace before being hauled before the KwaMhlanga Magistrate’s Court in Mpumalanga.

Mabena, who faces allegations of soliciting a bribe to issue an ID, was released on R3 000 bail on Thursday, (23 November 2024).

She was charged with Contravention of Prevention Corrupt Activities Act, Act 12/2004 Section 4.

Allegations are that Mabena solicited a bribe of R20 000 to assist a non-qualifying person in unlawfully obtaining an SA ID.

However, a whistleblower reported the matter to the police leading to Mabena’s arrest.

Mpumalanga Hawks spokesperson Captain Dineo Sekgotodi said the investigation revealed that the alleged crime occurred in October 2021.

The matter will be back in court on 6 December 2024.
