Durban – A two-year-old toddler has drowned in a swimming pool at a house on Admiral Road in The Bluff area, south of Durban.

The tragedy unfolded just after 07:30 on Friday evening, (29 November 2024), when the toddler was found floating motionless in the pool.

ALS Paramedics spokesperson Garrith Jamieson said: “Paramedics arrived to find a vehicle leaving to rush a Two-year-old little boy to the hospital and immediately took over the scene”.

Jamieson added: “The child is believed to have drowned in a residential pool and was found floating. Neighbors assisted in pulling the child from the water.

“The child showed no signs of life, and immediately, paramedics began to try and resuscitate.”

Jamieson said paramedics rushed the little boy to a nearby Hospital while attempting to resuscitate him.

The resuscitation efforts continued at the hospital.

“Despite a lengthy effort by Advanced Life Support Paramedics and doctors the child was declared deceased a short while after arriving at Hospital,” said Jamieson.

“At this stage, the exact circumstances leading up to the drowning were unknown, however, SAPS [SA Police Service] were in attendance and will be investigating further.”

The family of the deceased infant has not been named yet.
