Pietermaritzburg – A multiple-vehicle crash involving trucks and a bus along the N3 North Bound, before Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu-Natal, has left two people dead and many others injured.

The deadly crash occurred at about Around 10 pm on Thursday, (5 December 2024).

ALS Paramedics said when paramedics arrived on the scene they found that two trucks and a fully laden bus had been involved in a rear-end collision on the national highway.

On impact, the vehicles caught alight,” said ALS Paramedics spokesperson Garrith Jamieson late Thursday.

“The Pietermaritzburg Fire Department worked to fight the blaze whilst Paramedics triaged and treated multiple casualties.

“At this stage, it is believed both the bus driver and truck driver have passed away due to the severity of their injuries.

“Approximately 20 patients were treated on scene for various injuries by multiple Ambulances before they were transported to various Pietermaritzburg Hospitals for the further care that they required.”

The roadway will remain closed while emergency personnel work to clear the scene.

At this stage, the events leading up to the crash are unknown; however, all necessary authorities were in attendance and will be investigating further.
