Johannesburg – The African National Congress (ANC) has reclaimed Ward 30, Roossenekal, Sekhukhune, Limpopo with a resounding 71% of the vote in the by-elections.
“After a sterling performance in a number of by-elections across the country, once more the ANC had registered a resounding victory in recent by-elections held in the Elias Motsoaledi Local Municipality,” the party said in a statement attributed to spokesperson Mahlengi Bhengu-Motsiri.
“The ANC won 71% of the vote in Ward 30, Roossenekal, Sekhukhune, up from 37%.”
The electoral results were as follows:
- African National Congress: 71% (up from 37%)
- Economic Freedom Fighters: 22% (down from 47%)
- MK Party: 6%
- MAC: 1% (down from 2%)
- Bolsheviks: <1%
- TRUTH : <1%
The achievement is significant as it represents a decisive reclaiming of the Ward from the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF).
“This victory is a powerful demonstration of the communities’ confidence in the ANC, showing the strength of our movement and the peoples’ trust in the ANC to deliver basic services, and to build a strong local government capable of discharging its service delivery mandate,” the statement said.
“We call upon communities to work with the ANC, to reclaim lost ground, work together towards a goal of a better life and to improve the quality of life.”
