Durban – The tragic death of one person, who was travelling with others, in a car that swerved on the wet M13 and crashed into a bridge before falling several metres ibelow, has put a damper on the festive season.
The freakish crash happened around noon on Friday, (13 December 2024).
“ALS Paramedics are currently at the scene of a fatal single-vehicle collision, which occurred on the M13, near the Polo Pony offramp Shongweni area, west of Durban,” said spokesperson Garrith Jamieson.
“At this stage, it is believed that a single vehicle somehow lost control in the wet weather and veered between the bridges, and dropped quite a few metres below.
“Patients are still trapped in the wreckage, however, one person has been confirmed deceased.”
There were three occupants in the vehicle.
The dead person was a passenger in his 20s who was suffered major injured and could not be saved.
He was declared deceased on the scene by paramedics.
The two others were later stabilised on the scene before being transported to a hospital.
