Johannesburg – Two men – one found with 4 kg of cocaine in his luggage and the other caught on X-ray with ingested pellets of the drug – were arrested at OR Tambo International Airport soon after arriving in South Africa on a flight from Brazil.
Police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Amanda van Wyk said the suspected drug traffickers were arrested on Sunday, (15 December 2024).
Lieutenant Colonel Van Wyk said: “These Bazilian drug mules, aged 30 and 35, had just landed from São Paulo, Brazil when they were intercepted at the airport.
“One of these traffickers was found in possession of over 4kg cocaine in his luggage while a medical X-ray confirmed the presence of drug ‘bullets’ swallowed by the other drug mule.
“Fifteen ‘bullets’ containing cocaine have been released.”
The arrested suspects are expected to appear before the Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court later this week on charges related to drug trafficking.
Vigilant police at the airport have arrested several drug traffickers in recent weeks.
