CRASH SCENE: The bus was left lying on its side
SHARE

Durban – A bus has crashed in the Ndwedwe area, north of Durban.

ALS Paramedics said on Saturday, (4 January 2025), they were on the scene of a bus crash in the Ndwedwe area.

After the crash, the bus was left lying on its side.

“At this stage, it is reported that there are multiple patients injured and multiple Ambulances are on scene,” said ALS Paramedics spokesperson, Garrith Jamieson.

“One female believed to be in her 60s was found to have sustained major injuries and there was nothing more paramedics could do for her and she was declared deceased on the scene,” lamented Jamieson.

Many others sustained injuries ranging from moderate to critical and were stabilised on the scene before being transported to various hospitals for further treatment.

Commenting on the tragedy, KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Transport and Human Settlements Siboniso Duma said: “One person has died and 30 injured following a bus accident transporting members of Nazaretha Baptist Church (Shembe Church).

The MEC said he received a report from the Road Traffic Inspectorate indicating that the bus caught fire.

The incident happened on P100 in Ndwedwe.

“MEC Duma has assigned a highly specialised team to investigate the cause of the accident,” said the Transport and Human Settlements Department spokesperson, Ndabezinhle Sibiya.

“He has also expressed his condolences to the family of the victim.”
