DIED IN HOSPITAL: Traffic officer, Jabulane Collen Ndlovu, was fatally run over by a speeding minibus taxi in Mpumalanga on Friday

Mkhondo (Piet Retief) – Mpumalanga traffic Cop, Jabulane Collen Ndlovu, who was run over by a speeding minibus taxi he attempted to flag down, has died in hospital.

The Department of Community Safety, Security, and Liason in Mpumalanga said it was mourning the death of the 46-year-old traffic officer.

The tragic incident occurred along the N2 in Mkhondo on Friday, (24 January 2025).

Recounting details of the incident, Mpumalanga Department of Community Safety, Security and Liason’s spokesperson Moeti Mmusi said Ndlovu was run over while “trying to stop the taxi” during a speed law enforcement operation.

Mmusi said the taxi, travelling from the direction of Ermelo toward Piet Retief, failed to stop and ran over the traffic officer.

Ndlovu, who was seriously injured, was rushed to a hospital, where he later died.

Lamenting that the tragedy could have been avoided by simply obeying the law, Mpumalanga MEC for Community Safety, Security and Liaison Jackie Macie urged motorists to “comply with the directives of any law enforcer”.

MEC Macie has conveyed sympathies to the grieving family of the traffic officer.

A case of culpable homicide was under probe by the police, but no arrests had yet been reported.
