Johannesburg – The African National Congress (ANC) in Gauteng has won a landslide victory in by-elections recently held at Ward 35 in Bekkersdale, West Rand Region.
“This victory has re-affirmed the decision of the ANC to listen to the people on the selection of candidates which was subjected to the approval of communities as opposed to imposing candidates in disregard of the people they serve,” the ANC said on Thursday, (6 February 2025).
“We see this as a turning point in favour of our renewed commitment to being one with our people.”
The ANC in Gauteng said under the stewardship of President Cyril Ramaphosa and Premier Panyaza Lesufi it will endeavour to improve local government performance “to ensure that we continue improving the quality of life of our people and to make Gauteng and South Africa a better place”.
ANC Gauteng Provincial Secretary, Comrade Thembinkosi “TK” Nciza said: “We call on all our public representatives not to take this reaffirmation for granted but to put our people first and to more than double our efforts in delivering services to our communities.
“We equally express our gratitude to our committed and selfless volunteers who worked hard to ensure that the ANC won this by-election despite all the challenges.
“We also commend the work of the Regional Executive Committee of the ANC in the Westrand Region, its leagues, and our alliance partners for the tremendous work they had to put in for this victory.”
