Putco Arson Attack: 2 More Suspects Arrested For Torching 51 Buses Appear In Court

Siyabuswa – Two more arrested suspects accused of being part of the gang that torched over 51 buses at four Putco depots appeared in the Mdutjana Magistrate’s Court in Siyabuswa, Mpumalanga on Wednesday (12 February 2025).

The suspects, 31-year-old Mduduzi Masango and 27-year-old Steven Mthombeni, were arrested at their hideout in Siyabuswa on Tuesday, (11 February 2025).

Masango and Mthombeni were remanded in custody.

They join 37-year-old Luthando Skosana and 29-year-old Isaac Mabena as suspects in the arson attack.

Skosana and Mabena were arrested soon after the buses were torched and they remain remanded in custody.

Mpumalanga police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Jabu Ndubane said all the four alleged arsonists – Mabena, Masango, Skosana, and Mthombeni – would appear together in court on Thursday, (13 February 2025), for formal bail application.

Masango and Mthombeni will join the other two arson suspects – Skosana and Mabena – during their court appearance on Thursday for possible bail application, Lieutenant Colonel Ndubane said.
