Durban – Businessman Toshan Panday, accused of fraud and corruption relating to the 2010 FIFA World Cup, will face the matter later this year after the court adjournment.
Allegations are that the accused colluded in awarding a dodgy contract of more than R47 million to provide accommodation for the SA Police Service during the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
On Thursday, (13 February 2025), the Durban High Court postponed the corruption case against Panday and eight of his co-accused to 8 May 2025.
The court adjourned the matter while it awaited the outcome of the defence’s appeal of a previous ruling regarding disclosing certain information to the accused.
The court further set this matter for pretrial.
Meanwhile, Panday’s tax matter, wherein he is charged with four others on 27 tax fraud charges of about R7.5 million, was also heard before the Durban High Court.
The tax matter was postponed to 24 October 2025 for trial.
Investigating Directorate against Corruption (IDAC) Spokesperson Henry Mamothame revealed that Panday’s application to have his bail conditions relaxed in the tax matter, will be heard at the Durban Magistrates’ Court today, Friday, (14 February 2025).
Owing to his health condition, Panday was granted bail and confined to house arrest.
