Polokwane – Two male suspects, aged 18 and 52, are set to appear at the Groblersdal Magistrate’s Court on Monday, (17 February 2025).

Limpopo police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba said the suspects were arrested on Saturday, (15 February 2025), in Groblersdal, Sekhukhune District after they were found in possession of five unlicensed firearms.

“At approximately 15:15, members of the Sekhukhune Operation Vala Umgodi Pro-Active Team, as part of their ongoing disruptive operations within the Groblersdal policing area, conducted searches around Blue Ridge Platinum Mine and the Maleoskop residential area,” said Colonel Ledwaba.

“During the operation, the suspects were apprehended at the Maleoskop Marital Quarters in possession of four unlicensed rifles and one shotgun.

“Additionally, 23 rounds of ammunition of different calibers were found abandoned in another house without occupants.”

Colonel Ledwaba said police investigations into the matter were ongoing to determine whether the firearms were used in any illegal activities and to investigate the circumstances surrounding the abandoned ammunition.

The Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, has expressed appreciation for the efforts of the Operation Vala Umgodi Task Team, praising their diligent work in uncovering these firearms and ammunition.

The suspects will face charges of possession of unlicensed firearms when they appear in court.
