Pretoria – The fraud matter of 70-year-old Salamina Khoza accused of defrauding the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) of about R152 000 has been adjourned in the Pretoria North Regional Court.
Khoza is accused of contravening the Social Assistance Act, and the Justice of Peace and Commissioners Oaths Act.
She also faces fraud and theft charges.
These charges relate to approximately R152 000 which she received from SASSA as a pension payout while she was a director of three companies that received contracts from the SA Police Service worth more than R60 million between September 2014 and August 2022.
Khoza’s companies are also a subject of criminal proceedings in various courts, wherein she is charged with other accused of corruption relating to alleged irregular tenders within the SA Police Service.
However, the fraud case against Khoza was adjourned to 22 July 2025 for trial.
Meanwhile, the case against 69-year-old Devi Sigamoney was postponed to 20 March 2025 for arguments after she filed for leave to appeal her 10-year sentence.
Sigamoney’s new legal representative requested a postponement to study all the court transcripts.
The sentence was imposed after Sigamoney was found guilty of defrauding SASSA pension payouts of about R135 000 while she was also a director of a company that received contracts valued at about R88 million from the SA Police Service.
The state said it will oppose this application.
