Johannesburg – Zimbabweans at home and abroad are counting down the hours to the unknown.
The countdown was prompted by a previously unknown character nicknamed “Bombshell” who recently exploded on the political front with his bold announcement that President Emmerson Dambuzo Mnangagwa would be removed from office on Monday, (31 March 2025).
Bombshell, an elderly former guerrilla freedom fighter whose real name is Blessing Geza, has taken to YouTube to address Zimbabweans.
In his latest address, Bombshell, dressed in military fatigues, declared he was a man of action in apparent reference to the torching of luxury cars and properties belonging to Zimbabwe’s oligarchy.
One of the firebombed properties belonged to one Wicknell Chivayo – famous for his crude philanthropy in which he buys luxury vehicles for celebrities like former footballer Peter Ndlovu and popular Zimbabwe singer Jah Prayzah.
However, reports say Jah Prayzah has returned luxury vehicles and cash gifts received from Chivayo, amid mounting speculation that the move was linked to deadline pressure as “31 March 2025” approaches.
Bombshell said Chivayo has no known business, yet he regularly spends huge amounts of U.S. dollars with a careless abandon that defies logic.
The rotund social media addict recently posted pictures of himself, his wife, and President Mnangagwa.
Now he is the target of Bombshell’s anti-corruption drive aimed at the president and his inner circle of oligarchs.
Bombshell named at least 26 so-called businessmen accused of siphoning what little was left of Zimbabwe’s comatose economy.
The endless show-off on social media of ill-gotten wealth by the oligarchs had finally riled the struggling population.
It doesn’t take rocket science to work out why Bombshell’s call for a national uprising on Monday, (31 March 2025), has found favour among the sufferers.
To stir the angst even more, Bombshell pointed to the apparent nepotism in government in which Manangagwa’s children occupy top positions.
Unemployment in Zimbabwe has been estimated at 90 percent.
Soon after his disputed re-election, Mnangagwa appointed one of his sons and nephews to deputy minister positions.
Spooked, the hugely unpopular President Mnangagwa first fobbed off Geza’s call for an uprising, but with the hour approaching, he has since deployed police officers in urban areas.
Many of the emancipated police officers look scared – some appear to have been recruited overnight.
Bombshell claims his actions will ensure that Vice President Constantino Chiwenga assumes the top job.
Chiwenga has remained mum on the subject.
All that ordinary Zimbabweans can do is look at their watches with anxiety.
Bombshell has hinted that 20:30 is the code for the signal.
Nobody knows what tomorrow may bring.
