Pretoria – Some areas affected by the outage in Centurion caused by a fire at Brakfontein Substation have had their electricity restored.

“The fire occurred at the 132/11kV Substation at Brakfontein on Thursday, (3 April 2025), at around 19:45, causing damage to cables and 11kV feeder panels,” the City of Tshwane said in a terse statement.

“The Energy and Electricity Department teams are busy with investigations and repair work.”

The City of Tshwane said its repair teams worked hard overnight and restored power to Eldoraigne, Raslouw, and nearby areas.

The City, which apologised for the inconvenience, said technicians will continue with assessments today with a view to restoring power to the following areas that are still off:

  • Rooihuiskraal North
  • The Reeds extensions
  • Wierdapark
  • Heuweloord

“Affected customers will be kept abreast of developments,” the City said.

However, Themba Fosi, the Democratic Alliance spokesperson for Utilities at the City of Tshwane, revealed in a Facebook post that eight panels were damaged by the fire at Brakfontein Substation.

He warned residents to “anticipate an extended outage – potentially several days”.

Fosi added: “Unfortunately, we are not in a position to confirm exact timeframes at this stage”.
