Zimbabwe celebrated its Independence Day on Friday, (18 April 2025).

Speaking to fans who braved the cold weather to attend the show, Gemma said, “Tonight is more than just a performance, it’s a celebration of home, heritage, and the unbreakable spirit of Zimbabwe.

“To all my brothers and sisters here in Canada, whether you’ve been away for years or just arrived, this music is for you.”

Gemma’s electrifying set was a highlight of the evening, as she performed both fan favorites and new tracks, showcasing her powerful vocals and dynamic stage presence.

Her performance was a unifying force, with attendees singing along to hits like “Chabuda Hapana”, “MuGarden” and “Ndichatarisa.”

Gemma thrills her audience

With her heartfelt connection with the diaspora and her passion for uniting people through music, she paid homage to her Zimbabwean roots while embracing the multicultural audience in Canada.

“It was an honor to represent Zimbabwe on such a special occasion,” Gemma said after the show.

“The energy from the crowd was incredible, and I’m grateful for the love and support.”

The event, which brought together Zimbabweans and music lovers from diverse backgrounds, was not just a concert but a celebration of culture, freedom, and shared heritage.

The night was further electrified by stellar performances from Nashie Zim and Nkwali, who each brought their unique flair to the stage.

Nashie Zim captivated the crowd with his soulful vocals and modern Afro-fusion sound, delivering hit after hit with infectious energy.

Meanwhile, Nkwali took the audience on a cultural journey, proudly representing Ndebele traditions through vibrant music and mesmerizing dances.

Dressed in striking isiNdebele attire, she performed rhythmic songs rooted in her heritage, celebrating the richness of African culture.

The crowd erupted in cheers as Nkwali seamlessly blended ancient rhythms with contemporary sounds, proving that tradition and modernity can unite in perfect harmony.

DJ Vinnyonone, DJ Fantafire, and DJ Winters Majesty kept the crowd on their feet, spinning an electrifying mix of Amapiano, Afro-house, and classic Zimbabwean beats that had everyone dancing.

Adding to the excitement, surprise MC Zuva Habane lit up the stage alongside Sadza Neguru, co-hosting the event with unmatched energy, witty banter, and a vibrant flair that kept the audience hyped.

Event organiser DJ Fambo concluded by saying: “Tonight was more than just a concert, it was a powerful celebration of Zimbabwean pride, unity, and culture on a global stage.

“The artists didn’t just perform; they brought a piece of home to Canada.

“That’s what makes events like this so special. Big thanks to everyone who came out, you made history with us.”
