Johannesburg – The Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) has warned motorists about adverse weather conditions in most parts of the country.

The RTMC said Wednesday, (23 April 2025), that motorists should expect downpours for the next few days.

“Forecasters say, and flood alerts are still in place after previous weather warnings for rain,” warned the RTMC.

The SA Weather Services (SAWS) predicts heavy downpours for the rest of this week that will likely result in localised floods, damaging winds, hail, and excessive lightning expected in parts of the country.

SAWS said isolated to scattered showers and thundershowers are expected from Wednesday in central and eastern parts of the country.

These heavy rain conditions are expected to be widespread in Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal, Mpumalanga, and the eastern half of the Eastern Cape.

“Motorists are urged to exercise caution while driving,” said the RTMC.

“Maintain a safe following distance. Avoid crossing flooded roads and bridges.

“We plead with all drivers to reduce vehicle speed to account for slippery road conditions, surfaces, and reduced visibility.”
