Johannesburg – Police in Gauteng are searching for a man suspected of the murder of 30-year-old Olorato Mongale, whose body was found in Lombardy West at the weekend.
National police spokesperson, Brigadier Athlenda Mathe, said Olorato’s body was found on Sunday afternoon, just hours after she was picked up from her residence by the suspect, only known as “John,” who was driving a VW Polo.
Brigadier Mathe said the South African Police Service has activated resources and teams to hunt down “John”, driving a VW Polo fitted with a cloned number plate that belonged to a Toyota Hilux.
The cloned number plate is LT 57 JG GP.
Narrating events leading to the grim discovery of the body, Brigadier Mathe said: “The man fetched Olorato at her residential complex in Athol, Johannesburg, at around 15:00 on Sunday, 25 May 2025.
“He drove with the victim in the township of Alexandra and proceeded to Kew.
“Between Alexandra and Lombardy West in Johannesburg, this man allegedly murdered Olorato and dumped her body.”
Brigadier Mathe said some of Olorato’s belongings, including her phone and handbag, were found abandoned along 9th Road in Kew.
“Her body was found in less than two hours at around 16:50 in Lombardy West on Sunday afternoon by the police with the assistance of community members,” Brigadier Mathe said.
“Gauteng police are investigating the possibility that ‘John’ was with another male suspect when they allegedly murdered Olorato.”
