KaBokweni – Neighbours watched in horror as police pathologists dug up a patch of ground in front of a modest house in KaBokweni and exhumed skeletal human remains.

The onlookers were even more shocked when they heard the skeletal remains were of their missing neighbour, 44-year-old Sibongile Precious Nkosi.

She disappeared a year ago after a heated argument with her young brother, 30-year-old Mluleki Nkosi.

The unfolding drama in this quiet Mpumalanga town, near White River outside Mbombela, on Thursday, 5 June 2025, took a darker twist when the dreaded question “Who done it?” pointed to Nkosi’s sibling.

Unbeknownst to the neighbours, Mluleki Nkosi earlier on Thursday appeared in the KaBokweni Magistrate’s Court on a charge of murder.

The accused was arrested this week on Tuesday, (3 June 2025).

Mluleki Nkosi allegedly “confessed” to the police that he had killed his elder sister and buried her in a shallow grave in front of their home.

Mpumalanga police spokesperson Brigadier Donald Mdhluli said the murder case was being investigated further.

“DNA tests will be conducted as part of the ongoing investigation by the police,” Brigadier Mdhluli said.

He said when the murder suspect, Mluleki Nkosi, appeared in court on Thursday, (5 June 2025), he said he does not intend to apply for bail.

Mluleki Nkosi also indicated that he does not want a legal representative.

“The man further claimed that he had a heated argument with his sister on 29 May 2024,” Mdhluli said.

“According to him, the situation then turned ugly when he allegedly struck her, leading to her death.”

The accused, Mluleki Nkosi, buried the deceased in the yard.

For about a year, the accused managed to conceal his dastardly deed until his arrest this week.

Mluleki Nkosi was remanded in custody, and the matter was adjourned to 14 August 2025.
