Bloemfontein – Schoolboy Kamogelo Baukudi from Bloemfontein, in the Free State, is still missing two weeks after he was abducted by two men impersonating police officers.
The 19-year-old Kamogelo was taken on Thursday, 5 June 2025, at about 11:55 after the vehicle he was travelling in was stopped on suspicion it was delivering illicit drugs.
The Grade 11 pupil at Martie Du Plessis Special Needs School in Bloemfontein, was abducted shortly after being picked up from school.
A week ago, a 42-year-old police sergeant was detained in connection with the disappearance of the 19-year-old.
At the time, Brigadier Motansie Makhele stated that the police sergeant would be charged with kidnapping, and possibly other charges.
Kamogelo remains missing.
Today, Youth Day 16 June 2025, the Ministry of Police has moved to reassure the public that everything possible was being done to find the missing teenager.
In a statement made available to The Bulrushes, the Ministry of Police announced that maximum resources have been deployed to deal with the highly publicised disappearance of the schoolboy.
“The Ministry of Police assures the public that maximum resources have been deployed in the case relating to the disappearance of 19-year-old Kamogelo Baukudi from Bloemfontein, in the Free State,” the statement said.
A multi-disciplinary team was established that included detectives, Crime Intelligence, Visible Policing, a hostage negotiator, and the private security Industry.
“The team has followed up on various leads, and has spoken to family members and friends and has also engaged with their sources in an attempt to find the missing teen,” the Ministry of Police said.
“Several briefings to the Ministry on updates have taken place.
“To date, one individual has been arrested, is in custody and will appear in court again on 24 June 2025.
“The investigation is still underway and the Ministry assures the public that maximum resources have been deployed to ensure Kamogelo’s safe return.”
The ministry said the South African Police Service (SAPS) continues to appeal for public assistance.
